Internet connection with a cable modem in Canada

I am new to the world of Kubuntu / Linux. I just install 9.04 on my older HP laptop Pavilion ze 4300
which is Ethernet connect to a Arris touchtone telephony modem via Videotron Cable Service, I am located in Quebec Canada and I can't get it to connect to internet.

Before installing Kubuntu on my laptop, the modem was working fine with Window XP.

Could anyone help me and explain what I must do when installing such modem on a Linux platform

Would any one know where I could get additional info on how to create an internet connection with linux

    Hey there,

    Are you using a router?

This page may help, at least as far as the correct steps to take to connect to the internet:

    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15068694

If nothing else, if this fails, you can say that you followed these steps and did or didn't get the expected results.
