Can I upgrade without installing removed apps?

Hey. I'm looking to go from 8.10 to 9.04.

I have removed a lot of stuff like open office and arabic fonts and stuff. If I recall the upgrade script will download and install these, right?

Is there a way to upgrade without having that happen?

I don't know the upgrade script all that well, but I doubt it would add them back in. I do know that if you simply edit your /etc/apt/sources.list file and change each intrepid to jaunty and run
    sudo aptitude update
    sudo aptitude -f full-upgrade
you will have accomplished what you want. If you have files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d you should either remove them, comment the entries or change them to jaunty also. Medibuntu is the only one that I know will work to just upgrade.

That doesn't sound too tricky. I will give it a shot. Thanks.

        Yup. Worked as expected.
It installed Lilo, and tossed out a few of my customizations, but those are probably general problems.

If anyone else does this, you may want to do it from a recovery console session to avoid some peculiarities when services are stopped and restarted.
