    g++ and Umbrello

    Hi

    I am completely new to linux and c++. I need to install build-essential and umbrello on kubuntu 8.10.
    Apparently, these packages are on the cd, but when I put the cd in the cdrom and type

    sudo apt-get install build-essential

    it says that I must insert the the cd into the cdrom drive. I suspect that I have to mount the cd, but I don't know how to do this in the right directory.

    Can anybody pls help.

    PS - I also have ubuntu 7.04. I got build-essential working there, but I can't install umbrello. I need both to do practicals for varsity. I don't care which one I use at this point (kubuntu or ubuntu). Whichever is easiest to get working...

    Thanx

      I am guessing that when you installed the system you didn't have a connection to the internet and apt was configured to use the cd for it's repos and not the web. You might want to look into adept and manage repositories and see if you can get apt connected to the web.

        Re: g++ and Umbrello

        I do not have an internet connection. I have a 3g huwai modem, but I'm not sure how to configure it to work. As I said - completely new... Is there an easy way to get the packages from the cd? Or to get the modem working? I guess having internet access will make everything much easier.

        I got the packages from linuxappfinder, but I had to download them in windows. I'll try to install them in linux...

        Thanx for the help. Hope I can get it working
