    KHelpCenter: Building search index

When I want to use the Search feature of KHelpCenter, only "UNIX manual pages" is listed. Underneath, there is a button labeled Build Search Index.

Clicking that, there is a window where I can check "Application Manuals", which I do, and then click the Build Index button.

I get a popup which goes from 0% to 100%, but when I then choose Close, I come back in the Search pane with only "UNIX manual pages" available.

When I go through the procedure again and click the Details button after the Build Index, I see the following message:

    INDEXDIR: /home/peter/.kde/share/apps/khelpcenter/index/
    FINDCMD: find /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/ -name index.docbook
    Creating index for 'kde_application_manuals'
    htdig failed

Which is plain abracadabra for non-wizards. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

(Okay, I guess the interface developer deserves a mayor spanking for not showing an error message when something goes wrong, and not being helpfull when error details are displayed, but that doesn't help me now...)

(Posting to an old message since searching on 'KHelpCenter' lists this message before the message with the solution)

Thanks to RavenDrew who posted the solution to this problem ( http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...2141.0#msg9043 )

    Hi,

I think you need to instal htdig. I did this using the following

    sudo apt-get install htdig

Unfortunately, building a working Applications Manual index is broken, no matter how you try to fix it. It's a known issue, and I think it affects Debian and its derivatives (openSUSE has a working index). They are currently looking for a way to fix this, but chances are they'll be more interested in waiting for what will be implemented in KDE 4.

Installing htdig does the trick! Once you install htdig, you CAN build an index of the KDE application menus.
