Blank menus

Hi there
I've recently stumbled on a strange problem, could be a newbie thing but in my Amrok, Open Office all the windows shows empty and unreadable.
I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 with all the software that comes with it.
Any Ideas?? I admit having been surfing around in the new system checking how things works trying hard to make no changing but you never know :P

an older video card. using the nvidia driver version 96.x.x or lower , if so check this i had a similar issue due to the driver i was using w/ my video card.
