Compilation of the newest kernel-not use any package manager...

Hello,
I have a problem, I heard that compilation of the kernel is another then in etc. Slackware. I download kernel which pack in .tar.bz2 file. Would you say me anybody how I compile the kernel similar way like in Slackware? I don't think to use any package manager...thx
