    Need Help installing Koffice

HI, I am not new to linux, but I am new to the debian way of doing things.  I have just installed Kubuntu, breezy edition and I am trying it out.  I wanted to install koffice and take another look at it, since I haven't looked at it in over a year. From the screen shots it looks to have really matured as an office suite.

Like I said I am not new to linux but have been living in the redhat/fedora world for the past few years.  I know how to install rpms with the gui tool and command line and have even ran a few source installs from tarballz from the command line.  But I really don't understand how this adept package manager works.   I know I could spend a few hours RTFMing but I would much rather just ask here for specific instructions.   What I would love to know or have some help on, is specific step by step instructions on how to install koffice.

I have done the following but it doesn't seem to work:

    I ran these commands:

    wget http://people.ubuntu.com/~jriddell/k...iddell-key.gpg

    AND

    sudo apt-key add kubuntu-packages-jriddell-key.gpg

then I edited the file /etc/apt/sources.list
and added the following to it.

    deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/koffice-15 breezy main
    deb-src http://kubuntu.org/packages/koffice-15 breezy main

I opened up adept and do a fetch updates, then look for koffice using the filter.  It shows up as not installed.  When I choose to install it the "action" changes to BREAK(install) and then when I try to commit changes it gives me this error message :

There was an error commiting changes. Possibly there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break packages.

Can someone please point out what I am doing wrong or point me to some easy to follow step by step instructions to adding koffice to kubuntu.  Thanks for any help you can lend

    Re: Need Help installing Koffice

    Hi,

First of all welcome to debian packaging style

So, you don't really need this line with deb-src as it's needed only if you want to install sources packages and then compile yourself...
Can you try to remove it, then type in a konsole :
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install koffice
This should install it or at least give you a much more explained message...
Then we will try to find out why a package can be broken by installing koffice.

    Cheers

      OK Sky,
Thanks for the instructions and the warm welcome to the debian world...

I followed your instructions and I will post below the output in my konsole window after I ran the apt command, it almost looks to me like I am trying to get packages that don't exist, could this be the case?  I got the list for the deb source from the kubuntu wiki at:

      http://kubuntu.org/announcements/koffice-15.php

should I add all the deb sources to my  /etc/apt/sources.list instead of just the first one that I added?  I will post the konsole output now:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
      that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation
This usually means your sources.list has conflicting repositories. Get a fresh list and try it again.

Looking at the output of your apt-get commands, I didn't see any of the 4 repositories listed in the instructions you reference for Koffice 1.5 Did I miss something? If so switch to another of the listed repos.
