Browser and a couple of other ?

Linux is full of choices, I know. Currently I am typing this from Konqueror. I was playing around last night after this install of 8.10. I was trying to check my bank account and realized I needed Flash. No big deal there, I would need Flash no matter which browser I used. (still have to learn to install it) Firefox always worked well but it is not default with Kubuntu. That also is OK, I can install it. I guess, what I want to know is which browser currently works the best. I am looking for speed. I post on several forums. For instance, I tried Google Chrome in windows but it acts up when posting in forums for me. But it was really fast. I haven't had any problems with Konqueror, but then I really haven't used it much. I never liked Internet Explorer in Windows, I remember Opera was pretty quick but I didn't use it much.

I also am curious about whether to use the older KDE 3, or the newer KDE 4, I think I can get by with either one. I'm not that experienced with either one. KDE 3 seems like it might be a little simpler to use right now though. (Should this be a separate thread?) I have decided for certain that I don't like Gnome too much, but I like KDE a lot.

I will be using this computer mostly for listening to CD's, audio files, watching video files and DVD's.
I need to learn a bit about e-mail as well. I always just used Hotmail before, but I want to learn more about using some of the other email features.
I guess, in some ways I know a bit about computers hardware wise, but don't really know how to use them like a power user.

The Flash problem should be solved, I just installed kubuntu-restricted-extras, and vlc.

Hmmm. My banks website was still looking for Shockwave Flash plugin. Still using Konqueror.

I installed Synaptic as my package manager. Neither Firefox or Opera show up in a search. Anybody know why?

update: I got Firefox installed now, but I still am curious about browsers. It also appears Flash is working in Firefox as well. I got Opera installed, but it doesn't get me into my Comcast email. Smartzone just comes up 'loading' and goes no further. It is very fast though. Konqueror is giving me problems all around displaying pages correctly.

To the browsers: Konqueror is great when you need a fast start and only want to view basic webpages, like wikipedia or this forum. On these webpages, konqueror is the best choice, as it is fast and integreates well with the system.
If you want to access webpages that make heavy use of flash and javascript, or are simply bad coded, firefox does a better job, as it displays them more accurate and sometimes even faster (try youtube with both koqueror and firefox - you will see, that firefox is a lot faster)

I would suggest firefox - it's not become as popular as it has done for nothing. I don't know about Opera though as I've never used it.

Konqueror is very capable too, although bear in mind that a year ago it was kde's Swiss Army knife application and it probably needs time to mature as a stand alone browser.

        Your bank problem?
I assume you are not running a 64bit system? If not I suspect it may be that your bank is expecting you to be running windows whereas your browser is signifying you are not. From synaptic you can install the firefox extension user agent switcher and thereafter you can under the firefox "tools" menu select the user agent switcher and select the option that will fool the site into thinking you are running IE7 under vista. Alternatively you can try it in konqueror which has the spoofing function available as default. From memory it's tools/browser identification.

        Any help?

I use both Firefox 3 and Opera 9 with 64-bit. Both are very good and work well with flash etc. Never had any problems accessing websites. I tend to use Firefox more because of all the addons that are available and if I had to choose only one browser, that would be the one.
