    [macbook1,1] completely new to kubuntu...

I installed kubuntu last night and started configuring it this morning.
I'm dual booting alongside leopard using refit.

I'm a little confused, to say the least.

    1. I'm on a 1st gen macbook that has the intel gma 950 graphics card. Are there drivers available to install on kubuntu?

2(/ 1.5). Sometimes kubuntu begins to run incredibly slow and just kinda of locks up. I assume this is because of lack of proper drivers... if so, is there anyplace i can check for the necessary drivers? The hardware drivers app proves fruitless.

    3. The splash screen on start up says KDE 4.1, but I downloaded the latest release from kubuntu.org yesterday...shouldn't I be on KDE 4.2

Thanks for any help. I'm eager to start really using kubuntu; this setting up process is really exhausting.

1 -- There are drivers for your card which should be included with Kubuntu from Intel (see http://intellinuxgraphics.org/documentation.html).

2-- The hangup may be something else. We'll need more details to help.

3 -- You will need to follow the directions at http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.2 to upgrade to 4.2

FWIW -- searching kubuntu.org and using http://www.google.com/linux may help you solve your problems yourself. I found the Intel link from a google/linux search.
    KDE 4.2 on Intrepid 64-bit

      hmm... first things first...
i'm at the download page for the intel linux graphics drivers, and I'm seeing a lot of git://....

what is git? how do I execute it? (simple copy and paste in terminal does nothing)

git is a version control system for developers. You said you were new to kubuntu, but I am guessing you are also new to linux?? With that assumption, I would suggest that you let the adept updater take care of your updates. If you start updating kde through source, I think you will give up on linux quickly. KDE 4 is still in it's infancy and has problems. That being said, I would suggest that you get a hold of kubuntu 8.04 with kde 3.5.*. I say this because I know how difficult it can be to use linux coming from another OS and I want your experience to be positive from the start. These are just my opinions and welcome and good luck.

          Correct

I cannot find any linux graphics drivers in adept .

Where can I read up on git so I can get the information necessary to execute all that code on the linux site??(now I'm curious)

Anyways, there is an alternative method of installation on the site...I'll check it out.

          edit : I'm at my wit's end.

i downloaded a bunch of driver components and extracted them. the folder contents consist of a bunch of folders and .sh files (some folders have install.sh), and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to run them.
          http://intellinuxgraphics.org/install.html
i examined those, but it's really hard to make sense of it.

I like the challenge, but I'm beginning to get frustrated.

          edit 2 : hmmm..

I upgraded to KDE 4.2 and noticed that synaptic now shows up in the k-menu.
So I was looking through synaptic and see my drivers are available. It appears that I already have them installed, but I decided to reinstall them. I am not noticing any considerable difference, and that can only mean something else is causing my kubuntu to eventually slow down to a crawl.

for example, if i have several programs running simultaneously, like firefox, konsole and a package manager, i can expect it to lock up. The mouse will begin to jump due to how slow the computer is going, and i eventually find myself having to ctrl alt del to quick restart.
