    New laptop = MUTE laptop

I've had my shiny new laptop for two weeks now and I've tried every sound tip on the Ubuntu forums and the Kubuntu forums that I could find. However, my laptop is still mute. There are others who have the same sound card as what is in this laptop,

I've loaded and reloaded and reloaded and reloaded Kubuntu 8.10 so many times now that I've lost track. Each time after a fresh load, I have sound. But it's terribly distorted, like d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d. At least after a fresh install I HEAR something.

And I've loaded and reloaded and reloaded and reloaded the latest ALSA version but my laptop was muted. No sound whatsoever after doing so.

A few people have shown me links to follow and I've followed them-to the letter-- but my laptop is still MUTE.

Is there anyone out there who can help me get sound, real sound like Hulu or TED video sound on my laptop?

Can anyone HEAR my cry for help? Is there anyone out there who can HELP my laptop spew sound?

Never mind. I loaded Fedora 10 and I can hear.

    Goodbye Canonical. Goodbye Kubuntu.
