Dell 1545 problem on VGA display

Hi everyone , i`ve just bought a Dell inspiron 1545 that has a GMA 4500 integrated graphics card with 3gb ram and im running Intrepid Kubuntu 8.10
It runs pretty well everything opens really quickly especially media mp3`s , video etc (open office is slow not sure why this doesn`t bother me) in the right resolution but just before it opens a window it does this weird static thing inside the browser but then goes normal.
    Any ideas?
Well done to whoever contributes to Kubuntu it`s really cool.

BTW it came with Vista but i couldn`t find the right sound drivers so i just put kubuntu on

Re: Dell 1545 problem on VGA display

i have kubuntu intrepid on 2 laptops.
both of them have all the updates from the intrepid-proposed repositories (not yet official, but good enough for me).
i have the gma 4500 on a sony vaio at home and everything's very smooth.
i have no external lcd connected to its vga port, though.
i have a nvidia on my dell precision at work.
i have an external lcd connected to the vga port, there.
and i had to turn off the "scale in" and the "minimize animation" desktop effects, 'cause opening and closing windows was a pain.
flickering and stuff...not smooth at all.
not exactly what you're seeing, but nobody's pick this one up, so... :-)
    hth anyway
    cheers

      Hi jankushka ,

Thanks i took off a couple effects it`s running smoother now, probably has something to do with the 15.6 screen that`s on my laptop.
But i guess some of these problems will be sorted out in the next release.

      Cheers
      Paul
