As far as I know there isnt any oss player, if that's what youre asking. Any drive will probably work and discs should be readable.

Debian 5.0 (Lenny) released on Feb 14 includes Blu Ray as an optional media (in addition to CD and DVD), so I suspect that Debian will be providing packages to use Blu Ray drives. Given that Ubuntu is Debian based, then Blu Ray support, may be available in Kubuntu 9.04 although the above mentioned article describes the problems with blu ray being against open source software.
