    is the current download link for kubuntu with KDE 4.2?

    hey,
    I wanna know if the current kubuntu image in the official site is with KDE4.2 or not?

    I don't wanna waste my time for the old one...

    according to kubuntu news, the answer to your question is: nope!.
    kde 4.1.4 is in the intrepid-proposed repositories (this is what i am running on my systems and it's good enough for me).
    kde 4.2 is in the intrepid-experimental PPA.

      Follow this http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.2

      The packages are up for Intrepid but you'll have to add the experimental archive.

          I'd guess when KDE 4.2 is no longer a release candidate.

            For Intepid there will never be an official release with KDE4.2, and the packages for it will never be in the main repositories, only in the experimental PPA.

            In some instances, such as KDE3.5.10 in Hardy and KDE4.1.4 in Intrepid, smaller "point" releases have been moved to the main repositories, but it is not always a guarantee.

              Interesting. So, is KDE 4.2 being developed then, for JJ?

                That is correct. Just like in Ubuntu, once packages are set and frozen during the development cycle, there are no upgrades to a newer version of a thing, unless it is a security fix. But outside of the volunteer backports, for the most part what you get at the official release stays at that version until the next release.

                So, for example, you won't get a new version of Openoffice ot the Gimp in Intrepid, though they may release an update to the existing one that included a patch or packaging fix.
