Konsole will not accept password

I have just installed Kubuntu 8.10 on my laptop as 'Dual-Boot' with XP. (This is my second installation - first one is fine!!).
I need to edit the 'Sources.List' file but when I go into Konsole I can not enter the password... the keyboard seems to be dead. Everything else works fine!!
Any help will be appreciated - thanks.

It is accepting the password as you type it -- it just doesn't provide any visual evidence. Type in your password exactly as you set it during installation, then press "Enter" and you'll be in.
