Re: Where to enter the code:

You don't have to use a command in Konsole to install a package.

If you are using 8.10 Intrepid Ibex go to Kmenu(New)>Applications Tab>Utilities>Terminal

This is where it gets a bit complicated. Most of the instructions are written for Ubuntu - but they are good for Kubuntu with some minor changes. The problem is knowing when and what those minor changes are, and it's a bit difficult for me to provide a comprehensive list.

Start here and page down to question #11a: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3099811.0

The link will take you to: http://amitech.50webs.com/installing/index.php.html
It's a bit dated and it's Ubuntu but it is a reasonable guide.

    Look also at: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/installingsoftware
Again it's Ubuntu but it's good.

One link on this page will take you to: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware
    This includes Kubuntu.

Have a bit of a look at: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/graphicalsudo
This will explain about using sudo (which works on both) gksudo (Ubuntu) and kdesu (Kubuntu, which is NOW kdesudo under 8.10)

One way of getting around Ubuntu/Kubuntu problems is to install the Ubuntu bit. In Kubuntu we tend to use the text editor called "kate" - In Ubuntu they tend to use the text editor called "gedit"- The Ubuntu instruction might be for "gedit" and you can either translate this to "kate" or install "gedit" which will work in Kubuntu.

Re: Where to enter the code:

You do not need to use the console to install software. Just open Adept (alt+f2 and type adept, or through the K menu K->applications->system->adept manager. It lets you select and install all software you want through a nice graphical user interface.
If you still need the console for something, use konsole (alt+f2 and type konsole)
