I have tried unsuccessfully to boot kubuntu via cds I burned 1 from canonical 1 from an australian mirror. mysystem freezes when the kde splashboard comes up. the process goes a little further with one cd. On one attempt, bootup was completed ; but on trying to reload after a short session I got another freeze..I now have 8.04 loaded .It is working. I do still want to install 8.10 BUT!!!

Please provide us with your PC specifications, to include video card type/model, type, number, and size of HDs, amount of installed RAM.Windows no longer obstructs my view.

I'm having a similar problem. I installed 8.10 via wumi. It takes me to the login screen, but as soon as I hit enter, it just shows the desktop background and the arrow mouse cursor (which I can move around). There's no HD activity and waiting for 5 minutes did nothing.
