    Latex on Kubuntu

    Hello everyone,
I teach maths and I want to use Latex to type my equations.
I have recently installed Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron and I am new with the UNIX system.
So I have read some threads and i open the Konsole and I typed:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install kdvi
    .

    then:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install emacs
then, I opened emacs and it didn't really look great, so I removed it because I wasn't sure i needed it. So I entered:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get autoremove emacs
So I am basically back to level 1 and I neel this Latex.
    Any advice?

Well, if you don't like emacs, you can use ANY text editor you like to write your latex eqns. From where you're at though you might be pretty happy with Lyx. Give it a shot:

    sudo apt-get install lyx

once you're in lyx, press ctrl-m to get in and out of math mode.

I don't use LateX myself, but I've heard good comments on Kile (_KDE _Integrated _LateX _Environment)
