    I've recently change my operating system to kubuntu 8.10 because windows kept giving me unnecessary hassle. anyway i seem to be having trouble with my logitech quickcam chat webcam. Kopete doesnt seem to want to recognise the hardware.
    Can someone help me sort this out.

    Have you installed libv4l (that starts and ends in l for lemon not 1 before 2)...

      Re: Help! Newbie to Kubuntu - RE: Logitech Quickcam Chat Webcam

      A few months ago I was trying to fins out why my Quickcam, as well as my BenQ 1500 was not working after moving to Kubuntu 8.10 and learnt that ALL webcams are not working since the SPCA5xx driver is being moved to GSPCA.

      I may be a little inaccurate with that information as it was a while ago.

            Actually, the package name is "libv4l-0".

            #11 on the link in my signature provides the general answer.

            The specific answer is, open a Konsole window and enter

            Code:
            sudo apt-get install libv4l-0

                  Assuming you have the camorama package installed, did you try opening it with

                  Code:
                  LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so camorama
                  ?

                  It should work.

                      I keep looking at two bug reports, but it is getting a bit beyond me!!!

                      Bug #279487: logitech quickcam no longer works in intrepid i386
                      This said on 9th October: "As I understand part of the driver moved into the libv4l package. This is not yet available for Intrepid, however a PPA version of the package is available at:

                      https://launchpad.net/~kees/+archive

                      Could you install libv4l from there and then try launching cheese the following way:

                      LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so $(which cheese)

                      Thanks in advance!!

                      Bug #287336: Quickcam video too dark

                      This was made on 22nd October.

                      I wonder if this is relevant to
                      the webcam its just black with some distortion
                      Paging down you come to "small C program to set exposure on V4L2 devices"
