(SOLVED) Everything is great except video is incredibly slow

I've been tweaking everything in 8.10 / KDE 4.1.3 and everything is great except my video is extremely slow, even with hardware acceleration turned on. It's a NVIDIA chipset 8400 video card with 512 Mb. I am using the latest driver that Envy allows. Granted, it's only a $50 video card, not a $250 video card, but even so, some tasks take forever.

For example, typing things in Konsole and hitting return, it looks like I am telnetting in over a 2400 baud modem.

Adding widgets in PLASMA, I hit "page down" and it takes like 20 seconds for the next icons to show up.

    Any suggestions?

Go to System Settings->Desktop click on the button that says Advanced Options. In the window that pops up change Compositing type from OpenGL to XRender. I've read somewhere that that should speed things up a bit.

SOLVED Re: Everything is great except video is incredibly slow

Everyone, I installed the version 180 nVidia driver and video is fast now. They must have fixed the problem going from 177 to 180.
