I tried to install on my desktop everything works in the demo

but then when I click on the installer it seems to start the installation and then stops installing.(from the demo page this time )

Now it is an older machine but it did meet the requirements to be able to run Kubuntu and like I said everything worked well in the demo from the image CD......

LOL You all must hate it when us guys switch from Windows for the first time......

Sorry if this is a repeated topic, but I just don't know much about Linux (YET!!! I am now DETERMINED to get this going)

Since it is an older computer would an older distro work better for me? Just to get familiar with Kubuntu?

Here's what I did... I went up to where the install was located on the desktop.. I opened it up it opened a window and showed that it started to install the bar started to fill (that shows the install is going on I assume) it also had the package with installing in the task bar. after a couple of minutes the icon with that package would disapear completely and nothing else would happen I left it alone for a while thinking it might just need more time since it was an older machine but it would not continue the install....

it is an older machine though, I beleive it had the last version of Windows 98 on it, so I am thinking that this version of Kubuntu might be more than it can handle really.... lets see if I remember what it's guts are.... I beleive it is Celeron processor with 1gb of RAM and a 40 GB HD. it doesn't really get used much at all anymore so I figured it would be a good test machine in case I screwed it up too bad not knowing much at all about linux at this point...

Those specs more then meet the requirements for Kubuntu. Did you answer the question and set up the partitons before it froze?

There's good chance the CD isn't a good burn. Look at FAQ #1 from the link in my signature.

Thanks, I will check all this out and verify!! The bad thing is I can't boot from a flash drive on the desktop... so it's the CD or nothing for the time being.

Ok I tried a fresh disk and it was the same thing....

So after that i tried to just install kubuntu inside of windows... it extracted the files and then it started the installation process.... it started with checking checksums and then after this operation was completed I got an error message that said that it can't access the CD...

Sounds to me like either your disks are bad or more likely the cd drive is bad.
