    Re: internet troubles

No, but it has to be plugged in when you run the restart command. Open a terminal and run
    Code:
    ifconfig
    again and post the results.

OK, I've seen this before. The avahi-daemon is causing problems and it needs to be disabled. You did not say what version of Kubuntu and KDE you are running, can you provide that information.

Before doing anything, reboot your computer and see what happens.

              Re: internet troubles

I know that there was a bug with avahi, but I thought that had been taken care of. It seems like it was a while back. The other problem is, that since i don't run KDE 4, I'm mot sure how to tell you to disable that daemon. If it were me, I would just uninstall it, reboot and see what happens. You can uninstall it by issuing:

              Code:
              sudo apt-get remove avahi-daemon
in a terminal. You can always reinstall it again, if we ever get your internet working. Actually, I think we can reinstall it from the disk.

Hopefully someone else will jump in here with ideas about this.

                  Re: internet troubles

I almost never recommend this, but since this is a new install I am going to say to completely reinstall the whole system, and when you do, make sure your wired connection is connected the whole time. I hope that will get you going.

                      Re: internet troubles

OK, that's great, you have a wired connection. Now someone else will have to come in to help with the wireless, becuase i am not up to speed on that. but at least nwo you have your wired connection so you will be able to download any programs or drivers you may need.
