[SOLVED] Display Constantly keeps refreshing itself

I'm running Kubuntu 8.10 and I just got a new Dell monitor with resolution 1440x900. The screen repeatedly refreshes itself in regular 8-10 second intervals. No matter what display settings I use, the screen will not stop refreshing. Everything else works fine while the screen blackens for 2 seconds. How should I fix this problem? Neither my Mac OS X partition nor Xubuntu have this issue. Please help.

I don't know much about these things but I came across this bug while trying to get my drivers working.

Screen flickers or blanks every 10 s with KDE4

I've found out what kded4 is now and the problem is the Detecting RANDR (Monitor) changes service.
If you stop that service in system settings the flickering stops and kded4 can still be run.

I can verify what iloman wrote. Disabling that service has stopped the flickering.

For people who cannot find this option:
1. go to System settings in the menu
2. Press the Advanced tab
3. Select the Service Manager
4. Stop the Detecting RANDR(monitor) changes
5. Also tick the checkbox use, so it won't startup again
6. Press apply and close the window

I hope you're flickering is gone now!
