Strange Problems with WINE

I installed WINE today, using the Ubuntu PPA Repo (WINE 1.1.11)
It's been giving me a huge hassle.
Launching WINEconfig (and any WINE-based app) takes FOREVER (a good 30 - 45 seconds) compared to Ubuntu.
Also, one application (Dream Seeker, BYOND) works fine in GNOME / Ubuntu, but in KDE it crashes?

Using Kubuntu 8.10 KDE 4.2 Neon Repo.

KDE 4.2 Neon is prolly your problem, do you still get this issue using kde 4.1 it could be something in the nightly that you have. i would say since a real beta is now out try using that instead of "nightly"
