    A few issues with kubuntu.

    Hello.

I installed kubuntu about a week ago and now, one week later I know my way around pretty well already. My opinion about this OS is good. Kubuntu is just a great OS that does what it has to do, and I think I'll stick with it.

However there are a few downsides. I think kubuntu lacks the support of a second screen. It was a b.. to get it to work and now it ia finally working it's quite buggy. Yesterday I wanted to try out some games, but when a game goes fullscreen it tries to center it in the middle of both screens. It also shows some lines and graphic issues, in other words unplayable for any game. I did however find a go-around. I installed the game Nexuiz, and this game shows as all other games in the middle of both screens, and then crashes to desktop and sets the computer resolution of both screens cloned at a very high resolution.
Because Nexuiz crashes and sets both screens to cloned instead of extended, I can play games. Once I'm done playing I have to restart the computer so it reloads the computer settings and sets both screens back to it's place and resolution. This way I can play games, but lets be honest. This is getting pretty ridiculous just to play a game.

I also have an issue with VLC. When I open a music files it always opens in a new window. So I went through the options and selected to open it in the same window. Now when I try to open a music file a strange window starts to appear and disappear over and over again for just a fracture of a second. If I look good enough the venster says "Copying".
Eventually, it crashes and this is the errormessage:

    Programma: Plasma-werkgebied (plasma), signaal SIGSEGV

I would really like to see this being fixed, so please if you know how I'd appreciate the help.

Re: A few issues with kubuntu.

Try changing the VLC output to X11 video. I'm guessing its on OpenGL at the moment.

At present, most configurations can only do 1 OpenGL thing at a time. i.e. If Desktop effects are on (Uses Opengl) and you try to do something else using opengl (Games/VLC opengl output), then the results will be erratic. Flashing lines etc.

This is unlikely to be resolved until DRI2 is introduced. A work around is to switch of desktop effects while gaming or doing anything opengl related.

Also try a different sound output module (under advanced view->audio)...some of them crash. And some can only do 1 sound at a time e.g. ALSA since they take full control of the sound hardware.
