HTPC with kubuntu, which one?

Hello,

I'm completely new to linux, just built a HTPC and would like to install kubuntu.

1st question: 64-bit or 32-bit? knowing that my home pc is under xp32-bit, and i would like to put these 2 pc in network.
2nd question: I have one HDD of 1TB, should I partition it? 100GB for system and applications, 900GB for media.
3rd question: how do I partition it? at the installation? can I do it after?
