How do you turn off acpi and only run apm?

I have a solo 5300 and I installed Kubuntu 8.10 but it over heats dies restarts and then works for a few more minutes over heats dies repeats.

Tried several other distributions but I like Kubuntu best.

Some web sites tell me to use apm and disable acpi. But in the bios there is no way of doing this.

is there a simple way.... even command line that disables and uninstalls all acpi, and installs all apm.

If you put windows it never over heats.... 4 days on so far and no problem in XP....

I want my Linux please help.

Step by step would be most appreciated even if it is command line.

is there a way of doing this? if not please tell me.

    thank you.
