lost network-manager /connection

Hi I'm new to Kubuntu and new to this forum, I tried Ubuntu 8.04 before but I'm a real noob at this.

I accidentally removed network-manager when I installed another package and lost my network. I'm not sure what to do and how to get it back now. Can I install it again from the liveCD?

Had a look at other threads regarding this but not sure I found any solution.

I am, as my connection, quite lost here :S

ty for the reply but I couldn't sort out my problem with it. Following the guide (wire connection) I couldnt see the eth0, halt at step 2 .. got this;

It's not finding your networking device eth0. That's a hardware issue. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about hardware issues will jump in here at this point.

hmm ... it did work however before i restarted after installing the above.
Is there anyway to restore/repair from a CD ? Seems like best alternative atm.

Before you do that, open a terminal and run:

cat /etc/network/interfaces

and copy and paste the results here.

OK, I want you to edit your interfaces file to look like this.

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0

iface eth0 inet dhcp

To do this open a terminal and enter:

kdesudo kate /etc/network/interfaces

on the command line, enter your password if asked. This will open kate (text editor) in sudo mode so you can edit and save the file. Once the file is edited, save the file. Then restart your computer and see what happens.

Unless you want to set a static IP, or if you are having any problems connecting, nothing further should be required. Looks like you have a running connection.

Hmm Im not sure I should be able to connect with this, (couse I cant :S ) and is abit afraid to poke around with the settings since I dont know "#¤% about it :S

Im not sure about the numbers with IP range/adresses and such ... sorry to be this utter noob .. but I just know I'll screw it up

According to ifconfig, you are connected, and the way you have it now it will automatically connect every time you boot up. Open your browser and see if you can visit sites on the net. If not post back. I can tell you are somewhere near Stockholm by your IP address/

Negative on connection tho ... cant connect with Firefox, I tried, think there can be some with Kwlan disrupting or one other of those thingamajigs I installed

Then you do need to follow the instructions I posted a link to earlier. It's probab;y a DNS issue.

ok, how do I know and remove any other networking managers (I assume you think "how'd I know ) but with those posted above, as I see or think there was 225ish packages(as tutorial say remove all ...).. and Im not sure what is what.

What IPs would work for me or/and how do I find them ?

And how do I backup those needed files ? save a text file ?

Edit your file to include those DNS's listed in your router's or modems setup, preceded by the word "nameserver" before each. Save the file (you did make a backup earlier didn't you)?
