If you want to watch commercial DVDs then install
1) kubuntu-restricted-extras; and
2) the Medibuntu Repository particularly libdvdcss2 and w32codecs or 64.

Personally, I've always used Kaffeine. Not installed by default in II. I don't really care for Dragon Player, and I haven't used VLC so I can't comment on it.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
