multiple desktop icon lost from taskbar

I've done something daft, and lost the icon for multiple desktops from the taskbar at the bottom of the scr een. Now I've only got one desktop and i don't know how to restore it. Clicking back on the taskbar just wants to add widgets. Intrepid with KDE4.1 and compiz.

try this two approaches:
a)Click on desktop icon -> set desktop and set number of desktops to 4.
b)go to compiz -> general settings number of virtual desktops.

Are you saying that you have lost your desktops or the desktop switcher on the bottom taskbar. To check if the screens are disable you can try <Ctrl><F1> - <F(however many desktops you had)>. If you lost the icon on the toolbar add-widget 'pager'.

It was the "Pager" widget that I needed.
