How to fix this: "Install the new "update-manager-core" package"

I installed Kubuntu 6.06 LTS and I am playing around to upgrade to 8.04/8.10.

the "upgrade guide" (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades) is hard to understand and i will start with this question here:

How to install new "update-manager-core" package" in 6.06?

    Thank you guys.

    1) It is telling you the answer. Install the new "update-manager-core." If you look at "How to install ANYTHING in Ubuntu!" on http://amitech.50webs.com/installing/index.php.html you will see that there are several ways to install the package e.g.
    sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
    or
    sudo aptitude install update-manager-core
    or through Synaptic

    2) Do you know that you can only upgrade from one version to the next? - from Dapper to Edgy, from Edgy to Feisty, from Feisty to Gutsy etc - and not from Dapper to Intrepid? ---You might be better to do a new install of the latest. There are so many things that can go wrong with upgrades.

      thank you .

however, the commands will not work, they reply with these ouputs:
      lsudo apt-get install update-manager-core
      Password:
      Reading package lists... Done
      Building dependency tree... Done
      E: Couldn't find package update-manager-core

      sudo aptitude install update-manager-core
      Reading package lists... Done
      Building dependency tree... Done
      Initializing package states... Done
      Building tag database... Done
Couldn't find any package whose name or description matched "update-manager-core "
No packages will be installed, upgraded, or removed.
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used.

I guess update-manager-core is not installed on this laptop.

I agree getting the latest version is the best method for a freshman. I would try upgrading first :P

do you have any ideas on the output?

      again, thank you.

Are you connected to the internet when you try to download and install this package from repository?
