okay so i am not the brightest bulb in the world but i am goint to get rid of vista even if i have to take it to a tech guy, but i rather not because thats just more money out of my pocket.

Well this is a big step in the right direction!
First off what version of Kubuntu did you download 8.4 or 8.10? The reason I ask is if you are new to linux you might want to use 8.4 as it is more stable than 8.10. With that said there is also more help for 8.4 as it has been out since April of 08.
If you want flash and are looking for a bit of learning then 8.10 could be fun.
So now you have the live CD did you run the live version? If so did all your hard ware work?
Now you have to think how you want to install it. You can do a dual boot with both pista and Kubuntu, or you can just have Kubuntu take over the hole hard drive.
So think of these small ideas the post back for more guidance.
