Ok, I've downloaded the Live CD, booted and looked at the install options. I can't quite figure out what to do in order to install Kubuntu alongside Windows, so that after I get my family used to it I can kill windows. I would also want to be able to carry files over from windows to Kubuntu.

Considered one of the best (if not the best) quide on the subject. I (as well as others here) have used it. Follow the instructions completely. It isn't a hard guide to use.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
