Upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 - now only have fullscreen CLI

Super dumb question, but how to switch from full screen command line interface to the GUI ? StartX?

Please point me to this and other must-have FAQ...

Yes, but were you expecting kde login?

It may be you have a problem with xorg in which case if startx does not work reboot into recovery mode and on the prompt select the fix x option. Then try normal boot.
