Opened application button duplicating on taskbar

I am in 8.04. When I open an application the button on the taskbar shows in two places on taskbar using up needless taskbar real estate. How can I stop this from happening?

Have you by any chance added an extra Task Manager via Add Widgets?

If you RIGHT click the Desktop and choose Add Widgets. The Widgets you have loaded will have a red "-" . If you have loaded more than one it will also show a number.

Wheen I rt click on desktop I do not see Add Widgets. I have been adding things to Taskbar via Panel Menu--->Add Application, but no red dots show up there under Taskbar. What now?

arochester's instructions are for kde4...you seem to be using KDE3.

Right-click on the panel and goto Remove from panel>Applet in the menu. If there are two task bar applets, remove one of them.

Many thanks Kubicle. That did the trick.
