i have a 500GB SATA and a 80GB SATA drive

i plan to put the 80 as KUBUNTU and the 500 as vista

do i plug out the 500 then install kubuntu?

also how do i format my old vista installation on the 80gb using kubuntu

Use GParted Live CD (free download):
GParted: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
It's best and safe and sure-fire easy. That way, you will have a solid clean start on the Kubuntu drive.
80 GB:
Make sure you are ready for this -- backup/save important data on the 80 GB drive.
Use GParted Live CD to delete all existing partitions.
Use GParted Live CD to create the new partitions you want for Kubuntu.
Three (3) Recommended partitions:
Root /
swap
/home

i'm going to try your gparted method but here's my current dillemma ok?

i installed the kubuntu on the old VISTA HD telling kubuntu to take the entire disk.....but now when i start up

the kubuntu loading screen comes up and goes down but when kubuntu is supposed to start.....the monitor light starts blinking
