Hi,
OK I am a newbie . But I just installed 8.04 which I downloaded yesterday. And installed it. But I have no sound. have a creative sound blaster card installed.And yes checked volume in Kmix and is ok.

Did you first try the Live CD? Was there sound with the Live CD?

It would appear that you have both an integrated sound chip (SIS S1701) and an add-on sound card (SB Audigy 1). Go into BIOS and see if it is possible to disable the onboard sound chip, then you can limit your efforts to making the Audigy card work.

Ok,
went into BIOS and turned off on board sound. Still no sound, but now my video card in now working. Funny? At least that is fixed. That was my next question. So what do we do next?

What 'socket' do you have your 'speaker-cable' plugged into?
I run a Creative 'Audigy' sound-card.
Mine's in the one above the BLACK socket....works just fine.
(A simple mistake that a lot tend to overlook.)

I use Creative SoundBlaster card but not colour coded where I plug Speakers. Even tried all the diffrent ports and nothing. Funny thing is it is plugged into the good one because I change drives and on my other drive I have Windoze XP and sound works ok. But dod get why when I did the steps above (couple of messages up) for some reason it fix my Graphics card problem( Force 4000 MX) kinda....weird!

Since you made the BIOS change, let's have a new look at the output of

lspci -v

and then

aplay -l

and finally

sudo lsmod

Maybe we can learn something ... :P

I dunno what you didn't do -- maybe "exit and save settings"? You have to get that SIS chip turned off before you can have sound with the Audigy card.
