    Wireless help :(

So i installed Kubuntu 8.04 x64 on my hp 9810us lappy and am having a hell of a time getting the wireless to work. I have a Atheros wireless card and it is recognized in hardware manager, it also says it is in use. My laptop has a wireless on off switch and even when it is turned to on I have a amber light meaning it is off. This only happens when i boot into Kubuntu my XP and Vista OS's work fine. (I am triple booting). Any ideas? Also when i run wlassistant it says no usable device found and then it turns its self off.

P.s. I am a total linux noob any help would be great thanks!

    Re: Wireless help

I think Kubuntu has some issues with atheros cards. Using ndiswrapper could help fix that. Try sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper and then using it with your card's windows driver may help.

I'm not so sure about Atheros and ndiswrapper. I am more used to Atheros and madwifi. Can you post the reusult of
      lspci
so we can see what Atheros chipset we are dealing with please?

        Re: Wireless help

I have also heard of people using MadWifi for Atheros chipsets.
Their website has the howto's and other stuff that might help.

You guys all rock for helping first off! Bad ass to help out and not talk smack just because I am a noob. Good form gents!!!

It is a Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter.

Hope this is what you needed.
Also How do i get madwifi working? I have installed it and ndiswrapper and I cant figure either of them. When I run ndiswrapper from konsole I get a bunch of command formats and when I try any of them it just recycles. Man I just want to get this working!

Ohhh p.s. I did get my display working correctly and learned how to fix the everything boots but nothing shows up error after installing compiz.

          Thanks again guys!

              Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter

              64bit version

Ndiswrapper = http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4794978 (page down to post #14)

(There doesn't appear to be a stable madwifi for this yet)

              Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5100

Still looks like a work in progress. But look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=879134&page=7 post#62
