back to Kubuntu and lost on eye candy

I am coming back to Kubuntu and seem to be lost on how to get effects working....

The nvidia hardware driver was simply enough and after that there is the System > Desktop Effects I used and set to Custom Effects but I am not seeing any "effects"....

Is there something further I need to do?

Did you reboot or at least restart x after setting the new nvidia driver?

And you mean, System Settings -> Desktop... Enable Desktop Effects
And then All Effect tab to turn on the particular ones you want?

Yes - I believe I did. There had been a span of a few hours between installing the nvidia driver and actually trying to get desktop effects to work. Maybe I should just re-install and se what happens.

OK, but perhaps you are getting the Compiz effects confused with the new KDE4 effects?
