    compiz-fusion

I only installed Kubuntu for the compiz-fusion plugin.. and now it will not work...I have tried to many guides and installed tons of packages and did all things..but still it wont work!

I did install all required packages, and the compiz manager work, but no one single effect work.

uh, I have Nvidia 6200 Turbo cache card, and Iam not sure if Kubuntu installed the Driver, how can I update the Driver?

also I found a command in a guide that check if my card support 3D acceleration, and the command resulted with this single word "No", but in some other websites and guides it says that my card do support 3D acceleration

    Re: compiz-fusion

Well as im not a linux guru, but i installed ubuntu a couple months ago, and compiz-fusion. I went to add/remove and i searched "compiz fusion" there were three apps to install. after its installed you go to the ubuntu(not sure what it is on the kde desktop) menu, and then other tools, then you have to click the compiz fusion icon.

An icon pops up near the clock, you right click it, and you can get to the settings there, then yo ucan set it up how you like it.

    Hope this helps.

This might be a long shot, but have you installed the driver for your NVidia videocard? did you stop the X Server and installed it? if you did then ignore this part of the post.
The next thing to do would be to go to adept manager and install one at a time, first the compiz and I am not sure if this helps but see if you do a

        Code:
        glxinfo | grep rendering
if it shows Direct rendering: yes, then you are one step closer, if not, maybe you need to uninstall the driver and update it or something, again, I am not sure about all of it, but I think this might help.

          Re: compiz-fusion

ok, I have done a big steps, searching in google reading guides and following instructions from guys in other forums, I obtained the proper driver for my Nvidia card, installed compiz engine and the manager.. it worked, not all effects but it did....the cube effect didn't.

I am learning the Commands right now, also trying to understand the new OS I got. I have missed with it so that it wont boot again. I did reinstall for Kubuntu.

I did update...installed the Driver again and now Iam waiting for the proper answer....
Iam not sure for what packages should be installed with Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron, which is the version I have.

so can anyone tell me what packages should I install?
and also what things should I remove before installing the compiz engine. like the desktop effect ,the x server or xgl?
and also how to uninstall them from the terminal (I prefer from the terminal, few commands and the work is done 8))

uh also can some one give a small definitions for:
          xserver
          xgl
          root
sudo, kdesu and what the difference

@soadrocksever: I will try the add remove thingy
and about the link, is that for ubuntu? is there a difference?
@Jumi: how to stop the x server,
also when I do the compiz --replace command...what does compiz replace? the X server?!!?or what?

thanks for your kindness....my greetings to you
