    Why the different OSs?

I am testing my ability and am trying Kubuntu 8.04.
I'm just putting a toe in the water by using Virtual Box.
All goes fairly well, but there is one problem I'd like the answer to:

When installing Kubuntu 8.04 into Virtual Box I must choose an OS.
I am given 3 appropriate ones:

    Linux 2.6
    Debian
    Ubuntu.

I have used Linux 2.6 and everything has gone well,
    but my question is:
What are the differences between those 3 OSs?
    Why am I given choices?

Vbox will have the suggested or pre-optimized configuration for your chosen OS.

However, if you are expert of vbox, then this option has no use for you.

You are given choices because somebody has installed these OS on the computer you are using. VirtualBox on my computer has KateOS because I installed it. It does not have Debian because I did not install it.

If kubuntu is the only OS you are installing I wouldn't be suprised if it was just vbox getting confused. K/Ubuntu is based on debian and uses the linux 2.6 kernel so it may just be getting mixed up.
