Logged in and everything on screen is in my face ! Went to system settings and res is stuck @ 640x480. Even in admin cannot move the slider (only 640x480 is listed tho)...tried sudo xrandr -r 1024x780 and and other combinations and terminal always tells me not supported. All was fine with resolution before.

Re: Screen resolution stuck @ 640x480 ?
If you are using Hardy don't log in to your normal kernel. Boot into Recovery. That has an option to "Try to recover X Server." Try that."A problem well stated is a problem half solved." --Charles F. Kettering

Re: Screen resolution stuck @ 640x480 ?
is this done with the CD ? ...if so, i tried and tells me this CD does not have rescue on it (8.04.1)
tried in Terminal: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xsrever-xorg
...and:
Package `xsrever-xorg' is not installed and no info is available.
Use dpkg --info (= dpkg-deb --info) to examine archive files,
and dpkg --contents (= dpkg-deb --contents) to list their contents.
/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: xsrever-xorg is not installed
tried: dpkg info - "cannot find node deb"
don't know if i'm on the right track here
.

Re: Screen resolution stuck @ 640x480 ?
No. It's not done with the CD.
When you first start up you will see a list of kernels to boot into. Unless your computer hides the list in which case it will tell you to press a certain button to access this.
You've got a typo. It should be:
