Internet Connection Problem [Solved]

Finally got the system how i wanted it and now i have no internet connection. I am here because i am using the kubuntu live disk for connection - the network settings between both live and permanent install are both identical in every aspect. Don't know what else to check at this point

just got it fixed...don't know exactly how this worked but here goes:
i had no internet but i was still able to download from the repository. I downloaded Guardog Firewall; set it up and then disabled it. Now i have my connection back. I would like to understand exactly what happened here tho
