How to confgure VMWare Tools on kubuntu guest

I finally got the vmware-install.pl to run after coming across a post that said I needed to run sudo chmod +x against it; this solved the "command not found" problem. That script wants to run vmware-config-tools.pl but it also gets the "command not found" error so I ran chmod against it as well.

Now I get the following when I run sudo vmware-config-tools.pl:

    sh: /usr/sbin/vmware-checkvm: Permission denied
    sh: /usr/sbin/vmware-checkvm: Permission denied
    sh: /usr/sbin/vmware-checkvm: Permission denied
This configuration is to be executed in a virtual machine.

    Execution aborted.

I am running VMWare Workstation 6.0.4 build-93057 and the kubuntu version is 8.0.4.1 (64-bit).

I haven't been able to find anything regarding solving this issue.

    Any help would be appreciated.
