I am using Linspire and moving to kubuntu and need help

I have been using Linux for about 2 years and have not really got into the command line or how to install different programs. I used to use Linspire and CNR and waited forever for new programs to show up or not to be installed.
Now that Linspire is gone, I would like to start using Kubuntu with kde 4.
I have several questions and I hope you can be patient with me.

    1. Should I wait for version 8.10 or install version 8.04?

    2. Does KDE 4 hable to work with KDE 3.5 programs. I tried to install Kubuntu with vesion KDE 4 and could not install programs from the apt-get system.

3.Is their a quick way to install the programs withou using a command line (Flash, Java , DVD Playback, Windows Codecs). Do I have to buy the fluendo codecs and how do I install them?

4.Also can I use different logo's for programs while using KDE 4. I like the different logo's for Firefox and Linspire and did not see option in the KDE 4 menu for custom Logo's.

    Thanks, for your help.

? I have Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex (alpha-4+) and i don't have problems. Note that 8.10 is at the moment alpha:

    Standard alpha, beta, rc warning:

This is an alpha/beta/rc (pre-) release. Pre-release versions of programs are NOT encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or for anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent, breakage. Pre-release versions of programs ARE recommended for developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs (or are curious).

    kubuntu-restricted-extras. Commonly used restricted packages
This package depends on some commonly used packages in the Kubuntu
    multiverse repository.

Installing this package will pull in support for MP3 playback and decoding,
Java runtime environment, Flash plugin, DVD playback, and LAME
    (to create
    compressed audio files).

Please note that packages from multiverse are restricted by copyright
or legal issues in some countries. See

      Yes, what Rog said.

To put a finer point on the Adept situation at this moment:

After you install 8.10, Alpha 4, Adept won't work until you
      Code:
      sudo apt-get update
      and
      Code:
      sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
      Then, it should work.

It appears that folks who install Hardy Heron, and then install KDE 4 over/alongside the KDE 3.5.9 end up with worse problems that those (like me) who simply install 8.10. That's my opinion, based on observing the problems that are posted here.
