PiTiVi software not working

I am a complete Linux newbie -- I've been using Kubuntu Hardy Heron for just a couple of weeks. I downloaded some software from the repos which worked ok, except for a video NLE called PiTiVi which simply doesn't work on my machine. Since the shortcut doesn't seem to start the software, I tried to run it from the Konsole (by just typing "pitivi") to see if I could learn more about why it won't start. This is the error message I get:

OLL: ERROR liboiltest.c 361: oil_test_check_impl(): illegal instruction in mmxCombineAddu
QSettings: failed to open file 'etc/qt3/qt_plugins_3.3tc'
Icon 'misc' not present in theme

Can someone identify for me what's the problem? I assume there's something missing which I need to download, but what? Thanks.

Since you installed the application, have you restarted your system?

Yes, restarted several times over the last few days, still no good.
