Mplayer stopping

Hi, I'm very new to Linux and Kubuntu, and I have a problem. I installed the mplayer plugin for Firefox today so I could play embedded Windows Media Player audio files, and it stops at random points in the file. I tried playing the same file several times and it stops at different places. I have Kubuntu 8.04. I looked on several websites for fixes for this problem, but I don't understand the technical jargon like "extract the tar file" etc. Any help would be appreciated!

Are you sure it's not the file that is the problem?
Can you play other files with mplayer?
or does the same problem occur.
