    8.04 on an Acer Aspire?

This could be the wrong forum but here goes.

Our son is going off to school and is looking at the Acer Aspire 5520-5156 Laptop Computer - AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core as an e-mail / internet browsing Open Office type platform. I figured my Kubuntu would be perfect for it with Seamonkey or Firefox with Thunderbird for email apps. (he's familiar with Thunderbird and likes it)

I was pleased to see OpenOffice 2.4 was bundled with 8.04 on my PC upgrade last night. I love that suite.

ANYWAY,... anybody see problems with the Acer Aspire series? Wireless problems? DVD burner issues?

It may be a dual boot laptop but hopefully not. That laptop comes with (shudder) Vista home version. So if 8.04 will get up and be solid there's no reason in my book to make it dual boot.

    Thanks again!

Near the top of this page are the "compatibility" and "incompatibility" lists, from users:

The only reason, IMO, to consider dual boot is the question of whether the kid will be given "Windows mandatory" assignments or utilities to install, or something like that. Even if he is, there is a way around dual boot, using either VirtualBox or VMware. Here's how I do it with VMWare Player:

I agree with Dibl about going Virtual if Windows Applications are necessary. As far an ACER Aspire, as you can see in my SIG below, works great for me. I love my ACER! Works great with HH 8.02 w/KDE3.5.9.
