    Kubuntu Hardy 32bit + Toshiba Satellite A215-s4697=frustration

Hello there, last Friday after months of wanting to do it, I finally installed Kubuntu (double booting with Vista, I study Industrial Engineering I really need Excel). The live CD worked fine... but it didn't recognized the wireless card, anyway I installed Kubuntu with success...

So I booted into kubuntu plugged into an ethernet cable because that was the only network device it recognized, updated, etc.. the whole 9 yards. But I still didn't had the wireless working. After that, I tried playing something in Amarok... and surprise... NO SOUND.
Video works fine, except when trying to plug my extra display... simply doesn't work.
Printer, Canon MP450 is recognized, but doesn't print.
Generic USB Numeric Keypad doesn't work at all.

I've seen this problems a gazillion times on the forums but I can't understand any of them, or they're for gutsy or feisty or ubuntu, not kubuntu.

So I was wondering if someone can help a real newb, who doesn't even know properly how to install a tar.gz, or get around the konsole, to get the wireless and sound cards working. (some of the other problems would help too..)

    Wireless card: Atheros AR5007EG
Sound card: (not sure, I saw it on another forum) 0.14.2 Audio Device Ati tech SBx00

I tried to install madwifi with the help of a friend through IM, but kubuntu said madwifi was already installed.

I want to use Linux... but Linux isn't helping me make the switch. It's been very frustrating.

PS. I also tried to change my user Image... kubuntu wouldn't let me... it said that the admin does not allow me to change the image... (I really don't understand, I'm the only user on the computer, and there is no run as admin button on that panel)

    Thanks

Google found this for your Atheros chip:

    http://www.ubuntugeek.com/atheros-50...-platform.html

Open Office has a spreadsheet that appears to be fully compatible with Excel -- you might want to experiment and see if it is suitable for your engineering work.

Here's the best guidance for troubleshooting sound issues:

Your Canon hardware may be recognized, but that doesn't mean a Linux driver exists for it. Here is where you can find out for sure:

Hope there is some help among these ....

The Atheros instructions are outdated. The tarball specified in those instructions contained the following readme file:

However, since you've downloaded this tarball, you've followed outdated

        Thanks.
Need help please, madwifi's isn't very helpful.
