    Desktop Clock in 8.04?

    Hey folks,

I have recently switched from XP to Kubuntu 8.04 and I'm very happy with it so far. My partner however, is always have problems with her comp which is running Vista. The only reasons she is resisting my offers to set her up with Linux is her desktop clocks. She has a calendar in the top right of the desktop with two analog clocks, each showing a different timezone, below that. I have been searching through the package manager for something that will give this functionality in Kubuntu but most of the clock packages seem to be digital. I also get the feeling that many of them will not work with KDE. If someone can point me to a decent clock package there will be one less PC running Vista. Thanks in advance for any advice! Cheers.

Well, if you try kde 4.1, you will find that it has plenty of beautiful so-called widgets. One of them is a clock (of which you can have as many as you like). Timezones are easily customisable. One click on the clock brings up the calendar, although it is of the "look only" type.

A calendar proper is integrated into kontact.

Does that answer your question? If not or if it raises new ones, ask...

Or if you are using KDE3 and have iGoogle you can add "Gadgets".

Thanks for the replies. Toad: I have heard that KDE 4.1 is unstable, resource intensive etc... don't know if I should upgrade atm while I'm still getting used to Linux in general. Aro: Do gadgets go on the desktop or just your iGoogle homepage? Cheers.

IGoogle gadgets go to the Google page. But if you install google-gadgets it will go to the desktop - http://www.getdeb.net/app/Google+Gadgets

Thanks for the info. I've installed Google Gadgets and I'm trying out a bunch of different clocks but all the gadgets are encapsulated in a grey cube/rectangle. Is there a way to get just the circle of the clock to show with only the wallpaper behind? Cheers.

KDE 4.1 is considerably faster than 3.5.9 and is now considered stable (I think official release date was end of July). It hasn't crashed on me yet and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

If you prefer to be careful and not delve into KDE 4.1 (quite understandable) I would opt for superkaramba, (for the simple reason that I don't know anything about google gadgets). There is a bunch of different superkaramba themes and they all look really nice.

Have a look at www.kde-apps .org for more info.
