Open your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and see if the first input stanza looks like this.
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"

I1 found1 a1 slight1 way1 around1 the1 problem1.
If1 i1 separate1 the1 punctuation1 by1 putting1 a1 number1 with1 every1 word1, i1 can1 use1 punctuation1.
A1 solution1 would1 still1 be1 helpful1 though1.Comment

I think you need to comment out that "CoreKeyboard" entry. I don't know how it got there in the first place. Probably the easiest way to do this, is to boot up with the Live CD, and edit the file that way. Have you tried booting up with the live CD to see if your keyboard works OK in it?Comment

This1 only1 happens1 in1 firefox1 windows1 in1 main1 body1 sections1, in1 any1 other1 program1, or1 in1 subjectlines1 the1 keyboard1 works1 fine1.Comment

I misunderstood. Now I understand that you having this problem only in Firefox. That's a new one on me. You may want to reinstall Firefox and see if that helps. Probably be best to do a complete reinstall, to remove all of the old configuration files.Comment
